It’s no question that virtually any kind of classic car is a head-turner when seen cruising on the street–the smooth lines, rounded fenders, the sound of burly V8 engines, etc., always seems to get our wheels turning. What about if you were to witness over 1,600 classic cars cruising through the middle of your city?

Well, the Guinness World Record was just recently broken when more than 250,000 spectators lined the Paseo de la Reforma, which runs through the heart of Mexico City, to watch 1,674-car parade of classic automobiles. To qualify for the parade, the vehicles needed to be at least 30 years old and present the original registration. The previous world record for the largest parade of classic cars was held by Den Hartogh Ford Museum in Hillegom, the Netherlands, back in 2002, which had participation of 948 cars.

Spectators were graced with automobiles ranging from old Porsche 911s, early 1980s Mercedes-Benz vehicles, 1930s Fords, 1970s muscle cars, and much more. The world-record attempt even caught the attention of Miguel Ángel Mancera, the man in charge of Mexico City. While thousands upon thousands of people spectated and participated in the parade, everyone who was there will have memories of the event for the rest of their lives, as it was quite a long parade–all of the cars together measured a whopping 3.23-miles long. That should be a record in itself!

We wonder who will be next to break this Guiness World Record? Maybe Mexico City will break its own world record? We’ll just have to wait and find out. In the meantime, check out some ameteur video from the event!
