[1]Once upon a time, Cadillac set the standard around the world for luxury. Everybody from princes to pimps longed after increasingly large and extravagant land yachts bearing the Cadillac emblem. Yet even in the long history of Cadillac, few cars are more fondly remembered than the brand’s succession of superior concept cars that brought a whole new meaning to the word “luxury.”
[2]One of Cadillac’s oldest concepts, the 1956 Eldorado Brougham Town Car, will be auctioned off by RM Auctions [3] in March, reports Hemmings Auto Blog [4].
The Eldorado Brougham is a one-of-a-kind exercise in opulence. First displayed at the 1956 Motorama, this Cadillac was designed to service kings and connoisseurs of the finer things in life. 24k gold trim is present in the rear passenger compartment, as is a cigar humidor, telephone/radio combo, air conditioning, plush seating, and even a vanity closet for the ladies.
The concept was built without an engine, and the limo never went into production. The recently released Corvette was only just starting to gather steam in sales, and GM was still experimenting with fiberglass at the time, covering this whole concept in the stuff.
This car has changed hands multiple times since GM first put it on sale after their centennial celebration. While the car has been appraised as high as $900,000, when it heads to the Amelia Island Auction in March it is more likely to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000.
