Back in 1975, when Ted Stephens was 17 years old, he purchased a 1968 Superbee. With only 35,000 miles, the red beauty was a part of Ted’s life for a mere six weeks and one day. Her life was sadly taken by a telephone pole after what the owner says was caused by “more horsepower than brainpower.”
Needless to say, the 17 year old wasn’t really “banking it” being that he worked part time at Burger King, so needing a new car, he ended up piecing off the short lived red beauty and selling her part by part.
It’s a sad way to see your first car leave this world but at least the Superbee parts might have been able to breathe life into other cars, and it led the way for a new business, having introduced the young owner to the ways of the salvage business. Seeing that the business started with one Superbee, but now has over 700 cars, most of those cars being Chargers, we can see how Stephens Performance can call itself the “largest vintage Mopar salvage and parts operation in the world.” Located in Anderson, Alabama, this place has to be seen to be appreciated!
Besides being the go to place for used parts for Mopar lovers, they also have new and reproduction parts for 1962-1974 years and A, B, C, E, and F body cars. Saying this place is just a salvage yard would be a huge understatement, but we must admit that seeing pictures makes us cringe a little as there are a lot of incredible Mopars just rusting away.
Even still, can you imagine being able to tour this place!?
