We’ve seen a lot of really cool pro-touring builds pop up lately, and our latest find is no different in that aspect. What is different about the ‘70 Barracuda convertible that Gary Betsy’s Performance Restoration out of New Jersey is working on, however, is the fact that it is a completely custom pro-touring beast. From the body panels to the sub-frame rails, this car is getting a complete make over, and all in the nick of time. Thanks to Pro-Touring.com, we check out this amazing build still under construction that’s turning a rotting Barracuda into a slick new ride.
Being built on a Max-G Chassis from well-known performance chassis and suspension builder Art Morrison, the Barracuda is still in a very raw form with all new body panels from AMD being fabricated.
While form and functionality are key to the Barracuda, Betsy and his crew went a step further, creating their own body mounts and bushings, as well as sub-frame rails for the car. The internal structure of the car has also been completely changed to get added strength.
The body of the car is fully custom with every body panel being modified somehow for a cleaner and smoother look without completely shying away from the car’s original looks.
Betsy and his crew even went so far as to shave the door handles and rear side markers. They also plan to shave the front side markers as soon as they figure out the front sheet metal. While the car looks sick in matte black, there are talks about painting the car yellow but the perfect shade hasn’t been chosen yet.
Powering the custom Barracuda will be a 6.1L SRT8 V8 engine with an Arlington supercharger. The potent engine will sit under an aftermarket shaker hood, allowing it to see a bit of daylight. While it wouldn’t be our first choice, the engine will be matted to an automatic transmission..
While the crew at Gary Betsy’s Performance Restorations still has a lot of work to do on the car, it is already looking fantastic. For more pictures of the car before the build started and as it currently sits, check out the company website. We look forward to watching this amazing customization continue to come together.
