Guaranteed to be authentic by the seller, this 1970 Hemi Challenger is said to be the only Pro-Stock racer built by the team. The original body built by Leroy Palarchio, which is still intact here, was dipped in acid to help reduce as much weight as possible from the car while still maintaining its original appearance.
Sadly the original drivetrain is long gone, but the good news is that the car has never been retubbed, or otherwise hacked apart in any way, although the rear tail light panel was replaced with a ’72 model year piece by Bill Flynn and then raced as the ‘Yankee Peddler’ for a period of time before it was sold to Jack Blosser and raced as the ‘Smog Eater’.
While its historic prominence is obvious, this Challenger is in need of a full resto to bring it back to its former glory. Fortunately the seller also mentions that he’s willing to correctly restore it “for the right buyer”, so you better have your secret handshake game on point when you go out to see this baby in Lothian, Maryland.
The seller is asking a cool $150,000 for the car, which might sound a bit steep for a roller, but then again, who knows what a rare race car with such a rich history might fetch once it’s brought back to life. Sweetening the deal even more is the inclusion that the seller is willing to entertain trades, so here’s hoping he’s been looking for an especially well-loved 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. Don’t front – it’s got the five point oh.
