The AMC Javelin made a name for itself on the SCCA Trans-Am circuit in the late 1960s. The iconic muscle car had the traditional long body style but avoided the cluttered look that some other manufacturers were known to have by employing the use of smooth sheet metal body lines. Because of their short production run, these unique muscle cars are harder to come by. However, if you want to own one you‘re in luck because one was recently added to the line-up for an October Mecum Auction.
The ’73 Javelin up for bid in October is being advertised as a very rare car- a Javelin that is a true P1 code Black car. It comes equipped with its original 401cui engine as well as a four-speed transmission, power steering and power brakes. The Javelin comes with the optional “Go” package that includes the raised fiberglass and plastic hood as well as the cowl-air carburetor induction system.
The Javelin has a Cardin interior with the traditional red, cream, pink and grey striping on the seats and door inserts. The interior also includes aircraft instrument controls recessed into the dash board and air conditioning.
Although this is a fairly rare example of the AMC Javelin, this car has been driven frequently and is ready to become your favorite weekend cruiser. If you’re interested in bidding on this iconic muscle car, it is set to cross the auction block at Mecum’s Dallas, Texas auction on October 8th at 2:15p.m. We look forward to seeing this Javelin make its Mecum Auction debut.
