With rumors a swirl, it appears a Dodge SRT Viper drop top is on its way. Sales slumping and the plant on idle twice this year already, Chrysler executives are looking to remarket the Viper to boost sales. A recent $15,000 drop in price along with the addition of a factory produced roadster to the line-up could prove to boost the poor trend in sales of the SRT.

Many enthusiasts clamoring for a roadster version have wondered what the hold-up has been. It is likely slow initial sales have made Dodge and (SRT) hold off on investing the extra money on a roadster production, allowing sales of the current cars to increase. Unfortunately, units simply are not moving.

Combined with a few new updates to the SRT Viper such as a new GT trim package, a modest five-horsepower increase along with the drop in price across the board of the V10 powered supercar, the addition of a drop top to the Viper line up just might be the makings of a possible rebound for this high end performance ride.

You would have thought Chrysler’s product designers would have done this sooner. Slow to react to lagging sales, it looks as if Chrysler is getting their head back in the game. With that said, could we see a supercharged V10 version of the snake, also, that will blow the shoes off the new Hemi Hellcat V8? The word is the aging V10 super-ride will receive a boost in horsepower and torque when released. With no specifics confirmed as of yet on how the engineers will add the additional power, expect the convertible in the coming release.

With a revised five-year product plan on the table, don’t count out this 8.4-liter V10 640 horsepower supercar yet. Chrysler players now coming off the bench and onto the field, in defensive mode, just might be able to deliver their A game.
