The Mustang and Shelby American have together been a part of the automotive landscape since 1965 when Lee Iacocca approached Carroll Shelby asking for a performance version of Ford’s new pony car. Even though Carroll Shelby is no longer with us, it doesn’t mean Shelby American is going to quit building on the Shelby heritage.
At Barrett-Jackson over this past weekend, Shelby American unveiled the 2015 Shelby GT, a car sure to build on the lineage of what we’ve come to expect. The Shelby GT brings 627 hp to the table thanks to a Ford Racing supercharger atop the standard Mustang GT 5.0L engine, but also a performance handling kit, beefy half shafts, 3.73 gears, a Borla exhaust, a staggered set of Weld Racing Shelby Venice wheels, and Michelin treads.
To bring all this excitement to a halt, the Shelby GT wears Wilwood six-piston front brakes, while the car’s appearance is bolstered by a redesigned carbon fiber hood with functional air vents, billet aluminum front grilles, and a carbon fiber two-piece rear diffuser and rear spoiler, among other exterior appointments.
A Shelby GT is a post-title build, and can be based on either a manual or automatic Mustang GT. If a Shelby GT is what you are looking for, contact your local Ford dealer and have them give Shelby American a call. What you will receive when the process is over is a car with a Shelby American CSM number for documentation in the official Shelby American Worldwide Registry. Make sure to check out all the available options, though, because they include a 700 horsepower performance upgrade, an adjustable suspension, upgraded brakes, and a number of interior upgrades.
“The 2015 Shelby GT is a nicely balanced muscle car that does everything well, whether on the track or on the drag strip” said Gary Patterson, Shelby American Vice President of Strategic Sales and Media Relations. “This post-title program takes performance to extreme levels. At the same time, the styling is sleek yet uniquely American with touches from Shelby history. Based on the fantastic new Ford Mustang platform, the Shelby GT can easily double as formidable daily driver and then run rings around the competition at track events.”
