Well known around the world for modifying performance Mustangs into veritable track monsters, every decent car collection has at least one or two Saleen-badged pony cars on hand. These days, Steve Saleen has widened his work to include all of the Big Three’s muscle machines, meaning you can get a Saleen Camaro or Challenger too.
But the next project for Saleen and his team is even more ambitious; the Tesla Model S. What can Saleen do to make the hottest electric car in the world even hotter? We’ll find out this summer.
The first renderings have rolled out, and they show a Model S that’s definitely been worked over by Saleen’s hand. A new front and rear diffuser and front fascia are certainly on tap for the Saleen Model S, and expect Saleen to add a chunky rear spoiler in addition to some signature black wheels. Take a step back, and while it’s still clearly a Tesla Model S, it’s even better looking than before.
So what about performance? Well…Saleen will probably leave well-enough alone for now, as the Tesla Model S is no slouch in the speed department. If you opt for the P85+ Model S, you can accelerate your electric sedan from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds. Saleen may know his way around combustion engines, but modifying a Tesla Model S is perhaps a project for the future.
