When Dodge announced their five-year plan back in May of this year, we knew from their graphics that a new supercharged Charger was in the works. It was only logical that the supercharged Hemi would be the 707 HP Hellcat – you can’t follow the Hellcat Challenger up with something that’s not just as impressive, right?
But the Mopar enthusiasts are still having a little bit of a problem with the new Charger, feeling it looks too much like a large, four-door Dart. Although some think that maybe the front end will grow on us all, the hardcore enthusiasts aren’t budging very much, and want the look of the 2011-14 Charger back – back when it looked mean, not like a commuter car.
But when it comes right down to it, the extra two doors are what’s really getting to people, and although the five-year plan doesn’t say anything about a two-door version, there is an AWD V6 version planned.
Now that all of the hype on the Hellcat is full tilt, with Ford fans crying about the “Fat Cat” and the Chevy fans complaining that the Challenger can’t handle the turns like their Z/28 can, how do you think the blue oval and bowtie crowd will react to the most powerful production four-door sedan in history?
They won’t like it, not one bit, and they’ll likely jump on the already speeding bandwagon trying to find something else to knock it down with. Still, we contend that no matter what camp you park your favorite musclecar in, these are very exciting times, and they’re just getting started. Who’s going to jump on this bandwagon that seems to be all about horsepower?
Yes, it is very exciting to see that a manufacturer here on American soil is giving America exactly what they wanted: more power. It wasn’t too much to ask, apparently, because we asked and we received. Now, if only Ma Mopar can see her way into making a two-door version of the Hellcat Charger, maybe that front end won’t be so bad after all. Or will it? How about we ask our friend Ralph Gilles to do another smoky burnout in the Hellcat Charger for us? You decide, and tell us what you think in the comments section below.
