There’s no denying the fact that most automotive spokes models are gorgeous 20 and 30-somethings that give the brand their representing even more of an appeal. But according to Chevy Product Specialist Maria Fotiu, she’s more than just a pretty face for the iconic bowtie brand. In fact, Fotiu’s annual training has her prepped for any question you could throw at her as well as geared up to work major releases like the recent launch of the latest Silverado 1500. Don’t believe it? Check out what she had to say about her job to Fastlane below!
Fotiu has always been a Chevy girl, whether she knew it or not. Growing up, her father worked for Chevrolet, starting in the factory and worked his way up. This instilled an “American-made or bust” belief in Fotiu’s family which led to her career leap into the General Motors family at age 19.
Previously a ballerina, Fotiu opted to jump at the opportunity to become a product specialist with GM after realizing what a unique opportunity it presented. Now eight years later, Fotiu is fully vested in her career, not only bringing a pretty face to Chevy displays all across the country, but also a wealth of knowledge about what the brand has to offer. This knowledge comes from a week-long training session each year with engineers, brand managers and other key players in the company, as well as email updates and on-the-floor overviews.
New product launches, like the one Fotiu was involved with for the Silverado 1500 require even more training, like major sessions with the complete product team.
Fotiu’s career has taken her to concerts, baseball games, racing events, and of course, all the major auto shows across the country in the last eight years, but it’s also brought her closer to the brand she grew up loving. And yes, while a pretty face may be involved, doing what Fotiu does for the Chevy brand involves a whole lot more than just a pretty set of poses.
