Few things in life are more frustrating and despicable as thieves, but one Malibu owner is experiencing the heartache of losing his ’65 to car thieves. According to forum post on ProTouring.com his 74-year-old father’s 1965 Malibu was stolen from a shop in Palm Springs, CA. The pale yellow Malibu was at a shop undergoing some work and according to a forum member appears that the car may have been specifically targeted.
At some point between 9pm on Thursday March 1 and 7am March 2, 2012 the ’65 was taken from the shop, however cameras were able to capture footage of two figures in the dark. Unfortunately, the footage was not able to get a clear image of the alleged thieves or any useful information.
Although the Malibu appears to be mild mannered from the exterior, underneath the hood lurked a potent Nelson Racing Engines Twin Turbo LSX engine. According to Nelson Racing Engines, the ’65 Malibu belongs to Ed Carter; Mr. Carter brought the ’65 to Nelson Racing Engines and asked for the car to be transformed into something that was “scary fast.”
With the twin turbo charged 388 cubic inch LSX producing 1,400 horsepower and 1,300 ft-lb of torque, the ’65 is/was scary fast; unfortunately the low life car thieves had penchant for understated looks and a wicked power plant. If anyone happens to see this ’65 Malibu the owner and his son would appreciate a call to a law enforcement agency. Hopefully the car will be returned unscathed, but let’s hope the thieves are treated with a certain level of prison “kindness” upon admittance to a state penitentiary.
