The sole remaining example of three 1964 Dodge Charger S F/X dragsters built by Chrysler in 1964 will be put up for bids at the Auburn Auction this Labor Day weekend, run by Worldwide Auctioneers.

With informal support from the factory, California’s Dragmaster Company built three supercharged, stroked Wedge engines and put them into Dodge 330 sedans. The resulting monsters were called ‘Dodge Chargers,’ which predated the 1964 Charger show car.

Campaigned by Super Stock racer Jim Johnson and famed drag racer Jimmie Nix, one of the three cars was lost early on in an accident triggered by an engine failure. The team lost factory funding after this. A second engine failure sidelined another of the cars, but they carried on with the third car until all support was withdrawn.

According to the auction house, this car has been correctly restored and well preserved. It will be offered with no reserve bid in September. Of the car, Rod Egan, company Principal & Chief Auctioneer said, “This is a unique chance to acquire the acknowledged first and only remaining S F/X Funny Car and we would urge enthusiasts everywhere to pay close attention to the opportunity.”
