While it may look like a weird contraption out of a cartoon, apparently this is a 1998 Chevy S10. The Truck was supposed to be built as a tribute to fireman and is supposed to resemble a fire truck, but we don’t recall any looking like that.
Its whimsical body looks less like a truck and more like a haphazard collection of car parts taken from a scrap yard. The front bumper looks like it was stolen from Clarence ‘Chili’ Catallo’s Little Deuce coupe, while its body kind of looks like an S-10 with random fiberglass body kits molded on.
Further adding to the quirkiness is the toolbox rear end and the fact that it rides on seven wheels and not eight. The reason for this cars eccentricity is that it was built as a “short range car show, show stopper, and parade vehicle – and apparently it does both very well.
The truck is built around the ’98 S-10’s body which has been channeled 3 inches and cab moved aft 42 inches, and the frame has been modified and boxed. It has a 2005 GM dually rearend and a 26.5 gallon fuel tank. Its interior has been customized with a control yoke style steering wheel, a few minimal gauges and plenty of toggle switches which perhaps control the suspension.
The mill is quite rare as its a 1941 Seagrave/Pierce Arrow 461ci V12 which makes 202 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. It has been rebuilt stock internally, has a custom alternator while two Rochester Mod B carbs supply the juice. The fires are lit by a dual optical-trigger electronic ignition with 24 spark plugs and 60 feet of wires. It’s mated to a Chevy 700R4 OD trans.
The 461 V12 is fully counterbalanced and equipped w/hydraulic lifters for a smooth ride. Even though this S-10 is absurd and ridiculous we have to admit it has a quirky charm that some seem to admire. It was an attempt at making a tribute to fireman that most likely turned out a little different than originally envisioned. If you were a Fireman, would you feel this was a tribute or would you do the proverbial facepalm?
