This Is What a ’55 Merc Looks Like After $150k Resto-Modification

If you’re one of those guys that likes original little old lady cars, patina’d barn finds or “as found” hidden treasures, the thought of spending $150K on a restoration of a mid-fifties Merc might sound a little c-r-a-z-y. But if you think more is MORE, and you like big cruisers cooked to sizzling perfection on a spit rotisserie, then check out this drop dead gorgeous ’55 Montclair for sale on Ebay.

Located in Fredericksburg, Texas, this 15,891 mile, restomod Crimson coupe is awesome. The smoothed and shaved body is laser straight and the acres of diamond bright chrome is impressive. If it were left to us, we’d have a pair of fender skirts on it ASAP, but the stance is right and it looks good sitting on custom 5-spoke mags and Fuzion P215/45R17 rubber up front and P245/40R18’s out back.

Interestingly enough, the car is all FoMoCo and runs a 1996 4.6 Mod motor backed up by a 4-speed automatic OD transmission. While certainly not a fire breather, Ford’s little OHC V-8 is notoriously smooth and reliable and looks good gussied up in shiny red paint sharing space with the braided lines and custom radiator.

The running gear’s been heavily massaged with a laundry list of au courant upgrades including 4-wheel disc brakes, a Mustang II front suspension, tubular A-arms and a 9 inch Ford rear end. The frame, gas tank and most all of the suspension pieces, including rear axle and leaf springs, are all dipped in high gloss, matching red paint and are truly a sight to behold.

The interior is impeccably sewn in lipstick and white leather but appears stock. Look closer and the tilt wheel, air conditioning, and Lokar shifter are tell tale signs of modernization. A mid-fifties Merc cockpit is a symphony of post-war bling with a kaleidoscopic of emblems, chrome and embellishments. A daunting task to restore for sure, but this car’s interior jewelry is buffed and thoroughly sorted out. The trunk received an equally sanitary treatment as well.

So what will it take for this Super Merc to change hands? The first Ebay auction stalled at roughly $25K, (falling short of the $79K asking price,) but now it’s back up courting a new owner. Check out Streetdreamstexas.com for more purchasing info. Whoever gets it is a lucky dog…
