Traditional Nova Is More Than Meets The Eye

Total Cost Involved, or TCI of Ontario, California has gained a broad reputation for their frontend assemblies for classic hot rods and muscle, and apparently their influence has extended itself to us here in Southern California.

Orange County local, Carl Kellogg owns our featured 1st-Gen Nova. He and Pomona Valley Customs of Montclair, California have retrofitted the DuPont Ultra Jet Black econo-box with a front pro-touring suspension from TCI that more than compliments the car’s Wilwood 12-inch disc brakes with 4-piston calipers.

The ’67 sedan also has the go to back up its superb sense of suspension and styling, and according to PVC’s Jay Ligtenberg the car currently produces around 475hp, thanks to a 383ci stroker small-block  from Speed-O-Motive of West Covina, California. The stroker motor is fortunate enough to be able to run on pump gas, and currently chases a 200R4 slushbox for the overdrive.

At the rear of Kellogg’s 1st-Gen Nova is a stock GM 10-bolt with Posi, and a rear sway bar from CPP of Anaheim, California keeps the whole thing grounded. Kellogg does run the car at some of his local tracks, though he and PVC have not yet reported any official track times.

The early Nova’s frontend has no problem staying glued together either; the epitome of Kellogg and PVC’s pro-tour build is in the front coilovers that give the old unibody that modern ride and handle that you would expect from some of the best driving late-model cars currently on the road.
