Once upon a time, Chrysler dominated a wide range of motorsports, from drag racing to the Trans Am series to NASCAR and just about everything else. But for the past few decades, Chrysler has taken a bit of a back seat in the racing world, letting Ford and GM take most of the glory for themselves. But times are a-changin’, and Chrysler looks to be getting back into the racing mood.
Famed driver and stuntman Travis Pastrana has signed on for another year with the SRT Motorsports racing team, once again driving the Dodge Dart Rallycross cars for Mopar. And this time, he won’t be alone.
Pastrana, who has gamed fame through extreme racing events like the X-Games and Motocross, will be bringing along buddy Bryce Menzies to pilot a second Dodge Dart Rallycross car. Together the two will take on the likes of Ken Block and Tanner Foust in the Global Rallycross Series, a combination of on-and-off-road racing that includes jumps, hairpin turns, and other wacky spectacles.
Make no mistake though, this is a serious racing series, and Pastrana managed to take home a victory at the fourth race in last year’s series at New Hampshire Speedway. Pastrana had to settle for 10th place overall last season, but his sophomore effort should be worth watching as he now has experience in the 600 horsepower Dodge Dart him and Menzies will be driving. We can’t wait to see these two in action.
