Last week a 13-year-old boy from Monroe, Louisiana had become a bit more ambitious than most of us had when we were young, and decided to “borrow” a Toyota Camry that had been parked at his house. While that may not seem so terrible and unheard of on the face of it, what would later result could only be described as unfortunate and catastrophic.
While the underage driver (who remains nameless) was on his rebellious and illegal driving venture, witnesses claim that he struck a 6-year-old girl (whose name is also withheld) that was on foot, and is currently being held at St. Francis Medical Center in critical condition.
To make matters worse, the young teenager completed his driving experience not after hitting the small child, but after he slammed into the driver’s side of a Buick Grand National that was parked alongside the curb after its owner, Veronica Tugler had just returned home from work.
After some quick investigation, the Monroe Police Dept. had discovered that the boy was living with his grandmother who is his legal guardian. The Camry was in fact not hers, but a friend of the family’s, and although she admits that she saw her grandson grab the keys, she thought he had put them back before he actually took the car.
Currently the boy remains in custody as the investigation continues. As of this writing, he has been charged of unauthorized use and still maintains that he himself isn’t sure what exactly happened.
