If you run a tuner shop, it’s just good business to do the occasional dyno day, when you invite customers and their friends down to see how hard they can spin the rollers. It’s also good business to make sure that if you’re the owner, your personal car does a pull or two. Better still – top the leaderboard for the day if you can.
That’s exactly what we have here in this video shot at Queensland, Australia-based Turbowerx Automotive. Owner Graham Harrison’s Pontiac, sporting twin Garrett GTX42 turbochargers, does 1,417 horsepower to the tires in the video, besting 20 other cars tested that day.
Other notable high-water marks were an 1,163 horsepower XR6 Turbo that took top 6 Cylinder honors, the N/A 8 cylinder winner producing 576 horsepower from a big block Chevy, and a 1,031 horsepower twin turbo XY Falcon.
As for Harrison’s Firebird, a previous combination utilizing a single Garrett GT55 turbo was good for mid-sevens at 180+ in the quarter mile, as shown here from Willowbank Raceway:
From the videos we’ve seen online, the car looked like a handful to drive with the single – with more power, but quicker spooling thanks to the twins, we can’t wait to see how Graham gets his ‘Bird down the track!
