Ford versus GM, it is a timeless war between two brands that have long dominated the American car market. The war has unfolded on many fronts, but none have been as cutthroat or as much fun as the battle between various muscle cars. The battle has gone back and forth, until GM suddenly pulled the plug on the Camaro and its Pontiac cousin, the Firebird.
As this YouTube video shows though, a decade is not enough of a difference for these two bruisers to put aside their differences. Watch as a 2001 Trans Am takes on the all-new 2011 Mustang GT, with some surprising results.

As any real drag racers will tell you, a race starts from a stop. The WS6 Trans Am was one of GM’s top muscle cars, and with an added cat-back exhaust makes well over 300 horsepower at the wheels. Still, a lot of it comes down to the driver, and this driver isn’t all that great. The first two races in this video do indeed start from a stop (though the Mustang jumps the gun a bit in the first race). In the second race though, you can clearly see the Trans Am going first, but the Mustang (with an automatic no less) quickly reels him in and takes the win.
The last two races go from a roll, and its enough of an advantage for the Trans Am to eek out a victory. The first race is from a 10 mph, and the Trans Am wins by a nose. On the second rolling start from about 15 mph, the Firechicken manages to win by about a car length. Not bad for a decade old car, but the Mustang still wins the real races.
