Video: How The 2015 Mustang Got To The Top Of The World In Dubai

Mustang Tallest Building-2

The team begins with a blank slate – 112 floors high in Dubai.

Some of you may have heard “urban legend stunt” stories of college frat boys taking apart one of their buddy’s cars, it’s usually a VW in the story, and re-assembling it in his room some number of stories up in the building. Tall tale or not, these sort of things are often generated from a sliver of truth. I personally have never seen or been involved in such a stunt, until now.

The video above is a nearly two-minute documentation of just such a performance. In fact, it’s an even more amazing stunt than moving a car piece-by-piece into somebody’s living room three flights up. The grandson of Henry Ford and a group from Ford Middle East built a 2015 Ford Mustang on the 112th floor observation deck at the top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, located in Dubai. We first reported on the event last week, but the video above was just recently released.

Through the magic of time lapse photography, you get to see this amazing re-assembly take place from blank floor space to completed car. This was no easy job, as you can clearly see through the window at 1,300 feet above ground behind the car as it is completed. The assembly, which began sometime after dusk, continues well into the following day. By the time the crew gets the scene all cleaned up, it appears to be nearly sunset.

Mustang Tallest Building-1

It’s getting there, but you’ll have to watch the video for the best part.

This is not the first time Ford has pulled a publicity stunt such as this–in 1965 they placed a new Mustang at the top of the Empire State Building, and then re-created that original event again just this year with a 2015 Mustang. The astute observer will notice one thing missing, though. For whatever reason, the beautiful shining example of American engineering and construction prowess was left without a powerplant. None-the-less, this topper to that attention-grabbing New York City event is truly enjoyable to watch. I wonder … could the International Space Station be next?
