It’s a classic recipe for carnage: take a nice day at the car show, add spectators, a camera, and a stretch of road littered with fixed objects, and presto – we have another dead muscle car.

For 2015, Ford finally brought the Mustang’s suspension into the modern era when they made the switch from the solid rear axle design to a fully independent setup, giving the car both improved ride quality and better stability.

But with the exception of the early 2000s SVT Cobra, all factory Mustangs prior to the all-new model have stuck with the old school setup, which many drag racers prefer. This guy, however, might not be one of them.

Note the on-throttle skid marks while also attempting to straighten the car out.

Paired up with what appears to be stock suspension and a set of all-season tires, when it comes to lighting up the meats this Mustang certainly gets the job done. Reigning it back in appears to be a different story though.

When things start to get squirrelly, our hero’s ego appears to get the better of him, and rather than back out of it completely to give the car a chance to regain composure, a second stab of the throttle sends things back the other way, beginning the sequence of too-slow corrections that end with a telephone pole having the final word on the matter.

While the end result looks bad, it’s worth noting that this could have been a lot worse – imagine what could have happened if the car had made contact three or four feet further up the car, right where a passenger might have been sitting. And we won’t even get into the oncoming traffic thing. Suffice to say that this is not the place to do this sort of stuff, and guys like this inevitably end up ruining the fun for the rest of us.
