The Summernats motoring fest held annually in Australia has become one of the Outback’s greatest rod enthusiast events since its inception by “renowned revhead” Chic Henry in 1988. Since that time, the event has grown to cater over 85,000 people at the Exhibition Park in Canberra.
At this last January’s Summernats 25, Shane Anderson was seen doing some radical burnouts in his blown 502 powered, chopped ’57 post. The fast shoebox burns enough rubber to smoke out the camera shooting our featured video, and as you can see it becomes thick enough to cut with a knife. What’s more, Anderson’s fast and heavy lead sled starts to spin some outrageous donuts.
This is not the kind of behavior that you typically see from any full sized car, and Anderson’s rear spinning ’57 is especially a sight to see as it creates a smoke storm around it. The Summernats crowd is enthusiastic, and they cheer Anderson on.
Summernats in itself claims to be much more than a car show, but a venue where the Outback’s most diehard motoring enthusiasts come to flex their muscles. It’s become an “Aussie icon” over the last 24 years, and after a burnout video like this, Shane Anderson and his blown post sedan are sure to become a part of the Canberra rodding legacy.
The Outback really does have an insatiable hunger for American muscle, and Anderson with his blown ’57 has proven that that appetite is still very much alive and well.
