Video: Dad Grenades Truck Engine As Last Resort

Anyone who has spent enough time trolling through Craigslist for affordable cars knows that there are some real gems on the free classifieds website. Unfortunately, Craigslist is often times the end of the line for a car that should be scrapped rather than sold. There are some shady characters selling shadier cars, and if you buy enough vehicles you’re bound to get stuck with a lemon. The question then is, what now?

The father-son bond is a cherished relationship. There’s nothing that can bring the two closer than a project car or in this case a second-hand, high-mileage pickup. At the guiding hands of a father, chances are he’s probably been there and done that and you’re better off listening to the old man. He’s wise, remember? Chances are he’ll probably forget more than you’ll ever know.

When it came time to decide what the father and son pair should do with their recently purchased clapped-out truck, well, grenading the wounded engine seemed like the only course of action. This video serves as a how-to guide for dealing with a good truck with a bad engine. Get some buddies, get some beer, and blow that bastard up!

The story that goes along with this video is as follows: After buying the truck from a nearby dealer, it was discovered that the underwhelming, 305ci small-block engine was on its last legs. After taking the truck for a test drive, dad found out the hard way when the engine developed a serious knock. The truck limped home at 2 mph, which was when it was decided that the smog-choked 305ci would get a viking funeral.

With per-detonation occurring, it was just a matter of time and full-throttle RPM before the engine would blow up in a spectacular fashion. With a beer in hand and good ol’ dad laying on the gas, this motor didn’t last long; eventually sending a hydraulic lifter through the oil pan. After all, what are dads for?

Now, time for that father-son build, right?
