The Nordschleife, also known as the Nurburgring, has become the universal testing ground for automakers all over the world. For whatever reason, this particular track is where benchmarks are set, records are broken, re-broken, and re-re-broken ad nauseum. Untold billions have been spent tuning and tweaking cars for the ‘Ring, just to set a record that could be broken years, months, or even days later.
Last week we told you how the Dodge Viper returned to the ‘Ring to take back the record of fastest production car. And the SRT team did just that, and finally they’ve released the video via the Viper Club of America.
Now there is sure to be some controversy over this record, as the Viper first set the ‘Ring lap pace back in 2008. Then the Corvette ZR-1 and Lexus LFA came along and beat the Viper’s record, with the Lexus setting the time to beat of 7 minutes and 14.64 seconds. Since there is no 2011 Viper, the SRT Team had to call on Tomball Dodge to provide them with two 2010 Viper ACR models.
Well the team has finally gotten around to releasing the video of the 7 minute and 12.14 second run around the ‘Ring. This means that the Viper, a car that still has its roots in a design more than two decades old, is once again the fastest car around the Nurburgring. Pretty impressive if you ask us.
