Nicholas Gage loves cars and loves to make movies. His 2000 Hollywood remake of Gone in 60 Seconds brought the Chip Foose breathed-on ’67 Shelby GT500 Eleanor clones out of the woodwork, but we’re not so sure that his latest flick, Drive Angry, is quite so Oscar worthy. In the movie Cage plays a father that has escaped the grasp of Hell and returns to Earth in order to avenge the death of his daughter.
For some reason he has an affinity for driving – and destroying – muscle cars in the film, and a ’72 Chevelle SS, a cool old Riviera, and a ’69 Charger all play a big role. The Charger itself is essentially straight off of the sets of Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, with a black satin paint job and the re-popped American Racing Turbine wheels.
While we do hate seeing muscle cars get destroyed on screen, we still flock to the theaters to tolerate the sub-par dialogue and plot to get to what we’re interested in; muscle cars, explosions, and good looking women. It would seem that Hollywood knows our weaknesses.
Unfortunately, the CGI used in Drive Angry seems to have been done by someone who was too angry to do a good job at work that day. We know that a lot can be done on a Mac with iMovie now a days, but in the future we’d like to see a little better effort there. Check out the video to see what we mean.
