The past history of one of America’s most in-your-face sports car is reviewed in this new video by Road & Track magazine. When first revealed as a concept in 1989, the Dodge Viper was called a “modern interpretation of the Shelby Cobra.” The first Viper was brought to life by customer reaction, as surely as it was be designers and engineers.
As well, you’ll get a tour of the Conner Avenue assembly plant where Dodge Vipers were built until recently. A lot of people are hoping that, because the Conner Avenue plant was shuttered and not sold, that the Viper will return, perhaps in just a couple of years.
Is there a 700hp future version in the wings? Automakers abhor missing out on a segment in the marketplace – any segment. The likelihood of the Chevrolet Corvette remaining as America’s only supercar is small. As to what and when a new Viper may emerge, well only time and Chrysler/Fiat CEO Sergio Marchione will tell.
