A big displacement soundtrack is music to any gear-head’s ears. Hearing a throaty motor tear into the night might have been the start of a love affair with cars for some folks. Whether a V-8 or a V-10, the rumbling sound of horsepower is a visceral component for car enthusiasts, so we thought this video duel between a Viper and a C5 from TitleMine would be fun to examine.

Both cars are run through the gears without going crazy or blowing up the public roads, yet we still get a good idea of the differences between the two rigs.

The Blue Vette goes first and has a lumpy, throaty bark off idle and then smooth’s out. It all sounds very familiar as small block Chevys are everywhere these days.

The Viper with its V-10 is different. Unusual too as it doesn’t have the side mounted exhaust. It has multiple notes off idle and is less lopey. The difference is noticeable between the V-8 and the V-10, although we think headers and exhaust play more of a part than simply the total number of cylinders.

On a side note, with silent electric cars looming, lawmakers might require a sound to be piped out of the vehicle so pedestrians will be alerted when an EV drives by. We think the burbling soundtrack of either of these two would be perfect additions to the next gen Prius.  Could you imagine the look on the peoples faces at Whole Foods?
