Check out this chopped 1949 (’50?) shoebox Ford dirt drifting half way round the friggin’ world in Finland. Seems like sleepy European hamlets are home to some of the freakiest hot rodders on the planet. Our brothers at Bangshift bring us the clip.
The Ford Freaks of Finland organized this “Freak Race 2014” last year and this old Shoebox ripped off the fasted time and let it all hang out. Running on mish mash of wheels and wide whites, this old suede Ford has a pretty good chop with forward canted B-pillars. Rods look cool at show and shines but look way better at speed with a rooster tail of dirt spraying out back.
The driver is very deft at hanging the old Dearborn sled right at the limit. Keep your eyes peeled for more Detroit iron on the sidelines. There’s a fire truck/ambulance standing by as well. Strictly a time trial the old sled makes some good time around the heavily wooded rimmed oval dirt track.
Ford-Freak Club of Finland was founded in 1987 with Ford, Mercury, Lincoln and Edsel enthusiasts in mind although ownership of a FoMoCo products is optional, just being a fan is of US Fords is enough for inclusion. Check out their website and club magazine Ford-Freak.
The last Freak Race was in the summer of 2014 and with another one coming soon, who knows? Maybe we’ll see this freaky Ford slinging mud and drifting again soon. One things for sure, its always a gas to see overseas fans flaunt their old school Detroit iron.
