Taking a classic muscle car and making it new again is all the rage these days. I mean, look at how popular the modern Camaros are. But do modern versions of classic vehicles ever trump the style, performance and enthusiast backing of their predecessors? Well, that’s exactly what semi-monthly YouTube show Generation Gap, presented by Hagerty, aims to find out. Check out what happened in one of the latest episodes when a ’68 Firebird was put up against an LSX-wielding ’10 Lingenfelter LTA in the video above, compliments of Motor Trend!
There’s no denying that both the classic first-generation Firebird and the modern fifth-generation Lingenfelter LTA concept car play a vital roll in the automotive scene. But which one is better?
Well, power wise, there’s no denying the Lingenfelter LTA’s 655 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque produced by its massive 455ci LSX engine takes the cake over the ’68 Firebird’s 320 horse 350ci Pontiac power plant. Also on the LTA’s side are better handling features, better ride quality, and its spot-on retro yet modern appearance.

Now point-wise, the hosts of Generation Gap determine that the Lingenfelter LTA may have the ’68 Firebird beat, but what do you think? Frankly, we know we’d enjoy owning both cars, but there’s just something about that modern TA concept that has us dreaming of old-school cool meets modern performance!
According to the latest episode of Generation Gap, the ’68 Firebird won the favorite vote over the LTA with 61.9 percent of the viewers voting for the classic Pontiac vs. 38.1 percent voting for the LTA.
