We want to show you this video posted on YouTube of the new KFC commercial. It’s really kind of cool because it features a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. We thought it was interesting to see that the producers of the commercial used a few, but almost comical techniques to get your attention.
When we first viewed the commercial and caught sight of the actors, it automatically reminded us of a skit from Saturday Night Live, especially when you see the driver who looks like Joe Dirt, and the passenger resembling a bad Jimi Hendrix impression. The producers definitely overemphasized the 70s era props. Did you notice the big sunglasses and hair pick on the dashboard?
On another note… It would be interesting to see how well the commercial promotes the chicken pot pies. Maybe they have it right, if you think about it the commercial covers quite a wide spectrum of viewers. First, you have the bright-red Dodge Charger, that hits home with every car enthusiast, and Dukes of Hazard fan. Then you have the baby boomers that grew up in the 60s and 70s that remember the songs and dress code of that era.
Finally, there’s the fact that it’s KFC, and everyone loves Kentucky fried chicken. So why not head down to KFC in your muscle car after the cruise night for a bite to eat. We’re not sure what they were thinking when they did this commercial, but we do know one thing, every time it comes on we never get sick of watching it. Call us crazy, but we would watch a diaper commercial as long as it had a really cool car in it.
