Just before Carroll Shelby died, he helped build what will almost certainly go down as his most outlandish creation ever, the Shelby 1000. With a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 cranking out up to 1,200 horsepower, the Shelby 1000 lives up to its name, and then some. Unfortunately, Mr. Shelby is no longer with us, but the legacy left by the Shelby 1000 will live on.
While we’ve seen photos of the Shelby 1000, we haven’t seen much in the way of video. And we’ve been itching to hear this Shelby beast roar. Luckily, Shelby has decided to put out a few videos highlighting the Shelby 1000’s awesome soundtrack…though we’re left in the dark about the actual drag times.
But that’s OK, because what we’ve got here is perhaps the most evil car anybody has ever sold. This particular gray model is a Shelby 1000 S/C, which obviously stands for supercharger, which allows this Shelby 1000 to make up to 1,200 horsepower. And it sounds like it is putting every bit of that power to the track.
Yet on the same token, the Shelby 1000 seems rather mild mannered, at least while sitting at idle. After all, what good is a car like this if it is too powerful to drive? We don’t think that’s the case with the Shelby 1000, although we can’t wait for Shelby to release some actual drag times, instead of just sucking up the sound to tease us. Any guesses on how fast the Shelby 1000 will rip down the quarter-mile?
