“It’s a beautiful day,” you say to yourself, in Portuguese since you are Brazilian. “I should take the jet skis down to the beach! But alas, my beloved Vitòria is out of town at a thong convention, and she has the truck keys. It’s a good thing that I put a trailer hitch on my Camaro…” And thus, we imagine, the chain of events began that led to the video shown here.
You can’t help but feel bad for the driver of the Camaro, stuck below the high-tide line, in this short but poignant clip. All the beachgoers have waded out into the surf, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee is in 4LO and pulling on a tow rope, but with the Chevy buried to the rocker panels in wet sand (and the trailer probably mired just as badly), there’s no way he’s getting back to dry land.
The Jeep’s tires spin, the people push, and one resourceful soul carries over a piece of driftwood, only to realize there’s nowhere under the car to stick it. Meanwhile waves splash in and wash away whatever was left of the Camaro’s resale value.
There’s nothing wrong with towing light loads with a Camaro, or even using one to launch personal watercraft, provided you’re doing it on a paved boat ramp that’s steep enough to get the trailer into the water without immersing the car. But on a shallow beach with loose sand, the end result was inevitable. Let’s hope that somebody called a wrecker before the tide came in and claimed the Camaro for King Neptune…
