If you’ve ever spent some time on YouTube you have surely come across a video that, at first, seems like it has to be a fake. No one can bulge their eyes out of their sockets like that, right? Ken Block’s antics behind the wheel can’t possibly be real, can they?
Ken is one of those rare guys that follows his passions and does not question where they take him. His YouTube videos get rave reviews, his DC products sell, and his sponsors love him. Why? Because Ken hangs it all out. He runs ever rally and drift event he competes in as if it were his last, and also as if the laws of physics don’t apply to him. Watching his moves behind the wheel is literally like watching a video game being played, except it’s all real! Without a doubt, the series of Gymkhana videos (pronounced like “Jim Conner”) are popular among gear heads of all types. Muscle car guys, import guys, and even the snobbiest of automotive collectors all agree that Ken can wheel a car like we wish we could.
The 3rd installment in the Gymkhana series was released to YouTube on Sept 14, 2010 and reached almost 17,000,000 views in 2 months! It was shot in Linas, France (near Paris) at l’Autodrome. The track is a 1.58 mile oval and features sections with 51 degree banking. Enjoy the video and take down some tips, but try to avoid driving directly after you watch it. (Two words: speed drunk.)
