On Tuesday this week, SRT loaded up their website with pictures and videos of the 2015 SRT Hellcat Hemi Challenger. While SRT didn’t exactly state what the horsepower or torque ratings would be, they did clearly state that the Hellcat Hemi is the most powerful V8 that Chrysler has ever produced.
Earlier reports had the Hellcat at close to 700 horsepower, with then CEO of SRT Ralph Gilles stating that it is quite a conundrum, because the SRT Viper is supposed to be the flagship model, yet the SRT Hellcat Challenger has more ponies under the hood.
This left us wondering what direction SRT was going to go with this news, then the hammer fell and we found out that eventually, SRT will be folded back into Dodge under Chrysler’s five-year plan, with Gilles taking the helm as senior vice president of product design, and also as president and CEO of the Motorsports division.
This news was also saddled with the news that there will no longer be an SRT Chrysler 300, but they did state that the SRT Jeep will continue – but even that left us confused as to how it will be branded if SRT doesn’t exist. It appears that SRT will be a label, instead of a brand.
So now that we have the five-year plan, the pictures, the videos of the interior, the cool marker-lamp air duct to the twin-screw supercharger, and the overall adrenaline rush that is the 2015 SRT Hellcat Hemi Challenger, we were left with but one little thing that was missing: the sound of the Hellcat Hemi.
And now we know exactly why they call it the Hellcat, thanks to YouTube users Turbo20v18, who brings us the sound from the rear (above), and MotorReviews, who brings us the sound from the front end (below), as Dodge Brand CEO Timothy Kuniskis plays that sweet music for us. How does it sound to you – would you rather hear it in person?
