While there is talk about an “America on the decline” these days, one area that the ol’ U.S.A. continues to dominate is the culture wars. All over the world, American culture is celebrate, whether it be our music, celebrities, or automobiles.
Cars are an especially important part of our culture, and people all over the world seek to include prized American muscle and luxury cars in their own collections.
But it is not often that we see such a muscle car tour de force outside of the U.S. But the New Zealand city of New Plymouth rumbled with the roar of American muscle cars this past week, reports the Taranaki Daily News.
Inhabitants of New Zealand (known as “Kiwis” by some) have always had a thing for fast cars, and the history of this island nation is full of racing legends. During the American muscle car wars though, many racers went out of their way to import cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro.
Soon enough, importers were bringing all sorts of American iron, classic and contemporary alike, to the nation of New Zealand. The city of New Plymouth invites muscle car owners from across the country to join in an annual parade that brings out thousands of spectators, many of whom have never seen real American muscle in person.
It’s a special treat that many of us in America take for granted, and so it is that we salute the Kiwis for their dedication to muscle cars.
