Classic muscle cars offer drivers a chance to relive a bygone era, but sometimes reality interferes with the nostalgic dream state when creaks, rattles and lack of modern amenities appear. This is where the restomod craze formed, by taking the shell of classic ride and giving it all of the modern internals and goodies found in present form of the car.
One forum member at dodgecharger.com decided to give his ’69 Dodge Charger a more modern feel. Many purists may disagree with his choice to take away the squeaks, creaks or other random noises, and the addition of the modern HEMI.
Pete Filippatos, owner of the Charger, decided to put his skills to the test when it came to giving the old Charger a new feel. Filippatos added Dynamat to the inside of the car to alleviate road noise, creaks and squeaks.
Along with quieting down the ride, a Firm Feel steering box was added, new suspension components and the car was converted to disc brakes in the front and rear.
After revamping the powertrain, interior, exterior and audio system, Filippatos ’69 has truly merged the aesthetic qualities of a classic with the modern amenities. In the end Filippatos’ Charger has ice cold AC, iPod connector and make a mid 12-second pass at the local dragstrip.
