Anyone swapping the latest Ford engines into their builds knows that some creative measures will need to be taken when it comes to transmissions. The old standby is a manual transmission – they’re not easy but simpler when compared to today’s electronic transmissions.
Performance Automatic of Frederick, Maryland, just made the swap a little easier for those who aim to put an automatic behind some of the newer Ford engines with its 6R80 six-speed Street Smart transmission packages.
With two new six-speed Street Smart Transmission packages, Performance Automatic (PA) helps builders put the 6R80 six-speed behind the 2011-2014 5.0 Coyote engine or the 3.5 EcoBoost engine.
Included with the Street Smart packages is the 6600 Stand Alone Transmission Controller, designed to connect your 6R80 Ford transmission to a modern Ford engine.
What Performance Automatic does is provide a stronger transmission with upgraded clutches and performance modifications, including deeper gear ratios. With a lower first gear of 4.17 you’re out of the hole quicker, but the .86 and .69 double-overdrive will allow you to make fewer trips to fill up.
The new Ford 6 Speed Street Smart Transmission Packages and 6600 controller are designed to work with 2011-2014 Coyote and 3.5 EcoBoost engines with the 6R80 six-speed transmission, with a maximum of 450 horsepower. This Coyote package is designed to work with Ford control packs, M-6017-A540V or the newer M-6017-A540Va. PA’s Quik Connect Program makes it less complicated for enthusiasts to connect to the Ford harness, something that can’t be done by simply splicing into it.
Furthermore, the 6600 Stand Alone Controller comes pre-programmed and features full paddle shift capabilities, allowing the mating of the Coyote and the 6R80 Street Smart transmission to work in street rods, musclecars, and Pro-Touring machines with true plug-and-play performance.
Each package is a complete kit with transmission, harness, controller 11.5-inch factory spec torque converter, block plate and inspection cover, plus all hardware, and can be found on the Performance Automatic website with other drivetrain applications for Ford, GM, and Chrysler products.
