Video: Police Pull Over Wrong Car During Speeding Challenger Pursuit

Here he comes: note the Hellcat emblem, 2015 tail lamps, and black wheels.

UPDATE: Upon further inspection this car appears to be a Scat Pack based on the shape of the rear spoiler. Thanks to Brandon Neider for pointing that out.

Drivers have been speeding and evading police for many decades, and part of the training that officers go through is to identify potential danger or threat to other motorists and to pursue if the situation is warranted. If the pursuit is extremely dangerous, they might call it off and perhaps radio ahead to other officers. This is where officers need to pay particular attention to details of the car they are pursuing, noting not just the license number (if possible) but any other markings that will help identify the car later.

When the car is extremely fast, as is the case with this Scat Pack Challenger in the video above, the speeds can get up there in a hurry. The Hellcat Challenger is capable of 199 mph, and regarding the acceleration of the car – it’s faster than just about anything on the road today. The Hellcat didn’t invent speeding, but this car is definitely the poster child for high-speed pursuits.

And there he goes, looking like a black Dodge Challenger – the view the officer had.

However, this lucky Challenger owner – who hit the skinny pedal and took off passing other motorists on the shoulder of the freeway – seems to have caught a break this time. As you watch the video above, posted by Mr. Sarge on the Camaro5 forum, you can clearly see the offending Challenger is a 2015 – noting the tail lamps, and the black wheels. He also has the Allen Park, Michigan, Police in hot pursuit.

Down the freeway, however, that same Police SUV (noted by the #34 on the rear) has a Dodge Challenger pulled over in a case of mistaken identity. The car that was pulled over is a black Challenger R/T, not the one that went speeding past – it’s not even the same year. The R/T clearly has fender stripes and chrome wheels that are not on the car being pursued. It’s the little details that can ruin one man’s day and leave an officer with some explaining to do.

Does he have his man? The officer insists that he arrested the right man, and even when Mr. Sarge told him he had video footage the officer was certain he had the right car. We can just imagine the conversation with the R/T owner. Note that the driver of the R/T is nowhere to be found, according to Mr. Sarge he was in handcuffs in the SUV.

Even with video proof, it seems that the Allen Park Police are not willing to listen to Mr. Sarge, or to even check out the video. So what’s left to do? He’s heading out to the media and maybe we can help get this injustice turned around. Maybe with everyone’s help we can get the arrested driver freed, and convince the police to pay a little closer to details – especially when there is video evidence proving they got the wrong man!
