One of our longest project cars to date has been our 1971 Chevrolet Nova: Project Swinger. The car come to us as a basket case that pretending to be a musclecar. But through years of treatment to some of the best parts available, and receiving attention from our dedicated Shop Dawgs, Swinger has transformed into a bad ass street machine with a stance that gets attention – and the power to back it up.
The yellow Nova with the “SWINGER” license plate quickly grew on us, even after we noticed the Flintstone floor panels hidden by shag carpeting. After replacing floor panels and getting the body painted, we went after the tired SBC and opted for something more modern and powerful – the supercharged LSA from Chevrolet Performance. We backed it up with a Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission, and put the power to a Currie 9-inch rearend riding on Ridetech coilover shock absorbers.
To get the power to the ground, the Forgeline SP3P wheels were wrapped in BF Goodrich T/A KDW tires. An Aeromotive fuel system helps deliver the golden fluid to the intake, and the Jet-Hot coated exhaust system pulls the burnt gasses out through Flowmaster mufflers and spits them out through the rear tailpipes.
Of course, the whole interior received special attention, also, with a new dash and Procar seats from Scat, and a Dakota Digital instrument cluster to keep track of vital functions. Classic Industries helped us with all of our trim pieces, both inside and out, and provided us with all of our lighting and emblems to bring Swinger back to the car it used to be in the looks department.
We’ve come a long way with Swinger, and you can check on the progress step by step by checking out our Project Swinger articles page to see each improvement that was made along the way. Or you can check out Part 1 and Part 2 (coming soon) of the Swinger wrap up on Street Legal TV. It’s been a great transformation and the end result makes it all worth it!
