Earlier this month, we reported that Del Mar, California Goodguys participant Troy Borgen and his ’69 Camaro made use of Centerforce’s new DYAD clutch system. You probably already know that Centerforce’s DYAD assembly is unique in its lightweight, dual disc design, but this week Ridetech’s Greg Schneider takes us deeper into how the whole thing works.

As Schneider explains, Centerforce’s aim with the clutch was to manufacture a twin disc assembly that eliminated the problem of not being able to get the input shaft into the clutch from previous assemblies. The way that Centerforce achieves this is through the use of a unique, pin-driven system, “[Centerforce] eliminated that problem…the second disc actually couples to the first disc with drive pins and it’s absolutely gorgeous.”

Centerforce has also done extraordinary machine work on their new flywheel, allowing for a smaller and lighter assembly, “The flywheel itself…because we’re using a dual disc we don’t need a big diameter.” Centerforce’s DYAD clutch system is shipped with special plastic covers to keep the kit’s bolt threads from being scratched while in the box, and a set of special plugs for the transmission lines keeps fluid from spilling out during assembly.

The kit also features a spec card that includes a full breakdown of your system, showing you how to put it together. Aside from this initial spec card, the DYAD kit also features a separate spec sheet that features your system’s pressure check, along with the kit’s part and serial numbers.

All three of the steel components included in the clutch system are marked with timing marks, so that that combined with the kit’s spec sheet and card make assembling the clutch relatively easy while offering superior performance from a more refined, dual disc assembly.
