A little piece of us dies every time we see classic American muscle cars abandoned and rusting away. Unfortunately, this video that Jalopnik picked up doesn’t bring a solution, but rather another incident of sought-after performance machines wasting away. Ironically, this video wasn’t captured in the United States where it may be a bit easier to find classics from the 60s and 70s, however. It was actually filmed in Japan.
Australian Daniel O’Grady, who likes spending his free time exploring old castles in Japan, happened upon these dozen or so American muscle cars while in Kurume City on the island of Kyushu. Among the carnage is a few F-Bodies, including a Hugger Orange ‘69 Camaro, an early second-gen RS split-bumper Z/28 and a ‘79 W72 6.6L Trans Am with T-tops.
There are also a few Mustangs, including an early 70s Cobra and a few more from the late 60s and early 70s stacked in the back of the yard with no consideration. Aside from a Suzuki van, the lot is rounded out by a shark body and a C4 Corvette.
It sure is a shame that these American classics were seemingly imported for a reason but abandoned since they made their voyage half way around the world. We can only hope that now that these dozen muscle cars have been spotted, that someone will step in and save them from deteriorating any further.
