Some say that he has the best job in the world, and that you’d switch places with him in a heartbeat – All we know is that he’s called The Stig… In this teaser video from Top Gear Magazine, we see the crew shooting three amazing cars turning rubber into very expensive smoke at their Dunsfold airfield test track.
The cars themselves are an interesting mix: A Nissan GT-R (US base price of $101,770, 545 horsepower twin turbo 3.8l V6, AWD), a BMW M6 (Base price of $111,500, 560 horsepower turbo 4.4l V8, RWD), and the new Camaro Z/28 ($75,000, 505 horsepower naturally-aspirated 7.0l V8).
Why these particular cars? Well, we don’t get much insight into exactly what’s being compared from the short video, though one thing that immediately stands out is that the Z and the M spend a lot of time at full opposite lock with the rear tires boiling, while the GT-R tags along in grip mode, sometimes with a camera rig slung to the body panels.
In the US market, it’s unlikely that anyone would be cross-shopping these three cars, considering the disparity in price between the Chevy and its overseas rivals. But in the UK, where the Z/28 (and they point out that it’s ‘zee’ not ‘zed’) is an exotic novelty, the cost to own any of these three cars is likely to be more comparable. All three are various flavors of impractical for English back roads, but judging from the video, it seems like our all-American export holds its own in the “up to no good” department.
In any case, it’s an excuse to enjoy two minutes of shenanigans starring one of our favorite cars, so enjoy!
