Not all of us are old enough to remember the thunderous days of Trans Am racing. These were real cars that could be seen and bought in almost any showroom, duking it out on the track for muscle car supremacy. The BOSS Mustang, the Camaro Z/28, and the Challenger Trans Am regularly fought it out. Those days are long past, and there is nothing “stock” about stock car racing anymore.

Still, some of that long lost glory can be recaptured at historic motorsports races like the Rolex Motorsports Reunion. This video from earlier this month is from the dash cam of Bruce Canepa’s real ’69 BOSS Mustang.

Canepa actually went on to win this reunion race, though watching the video you can see just how tight of a race it was. It looked just like the races from the old days must have, as Bruce’s BOSS gets passed by both a Dodge Challenger and a Camaro Z/28. This particular race pitted cars made between 1966 and 1972 against each other, and Canepa managed to stay close to the pack, so alas, we don’t get to see what other challengers there might have been waiting in the wings.

Bruce’s driving skills are great, and the symphony and big V8’s buzzing around the historic Laguna Seca race track is something we wish we had seen in person. Bruce’s Boss Mustang is now up for sale, with an asking price of over $1 million. But for a real BOSS Mustang, that is pretty much a steal. We just hope whoever buys it next has the balls to race it like Bruce did.
