With the release of Gymkhana 7 we knew we would see a lot of tribute videos posted in a matter of time. However, the guys at TurboNuts thought it might be a good idea to actually call out Ken Block in this creative video.
At first you only think the GT500 is just doing your typical burnout that most all of us have attempted. Not much special about it, except the driver is slowly pulling off sticky notes after each spin. When he steps out of the car and the camera shows he’s barefoot, a “no shoes” tribute to Block’s DC Shoes sponsored videos. The camera then pans out to show the driver was actually spelling out the words “Ken Block Who?” with his tire tracks. With the massive use of a drones that we have seen in automotive videos lately, we had to know that this was coming soon.
But, is this such a good idea? Let’s face it, you can make the argument that Ken Block is actually doing some pretty wild maneuvers, albeit on closed down streets. But simply doing doughnuts in a parking lot really isn’t that impressive. Call out Ken Block all you want, but we watched his entire 12-minute video, on three different occasions when it was unveiled. At times we found ourselves trying to skip ahead in this video just to get to the end of it. There’s an entire debate about this being real or fake that has already started, but to us its clearly fake. Nevertheless, we have to admit that the video is fun to watch and actually features some very creative shots with the Mustang. A couple of the close up burnout shots actually appeared to require quite a bit of bravery and skill from the driver.
But seriously, does it matter if he is wearing shoes or not…
