Modern technology has evolved to the point where even amateur videographers can do some pretty amazing stuff with recording devices. Yesterday we saw a video of a Dodge Viper burning out from various different view points that looked absolutely gorgeous.
StreetFire.net provided this next in-car video of the king of smoking tires himself, Vaughn Gittin Jr., who won this season’s Formula Drift competition. The in-car camera is attached to the steering-wheel shaft. Be forewarned, it gets a little dizzying.
MONSTER DRIFT>> Final Fight: Part 1
This video is actually from the final race at Irwindale Racetrack, leading up to the 2010 Formula Drift season finale. As you may already know, Vaughn Gittin Jr. finished that race in second place. He had more than enough points to come in first place for the entire season though, and after watching this video, it is no wonder.
After about two minutes of introduction, and your standard in-car view showing the car pirouetting across the racetrack like a ballet dancer, things change to a view we’ve never seen before. The camera was actually attached to the steering column, staring at the pedals and Gittin’s feet, with a side view of what his Monster Energy 2011 Mustang GT was doing. While it can be hard to follow his fancy footwork while the camera is spinning at a vomit-inducing pace, it leaves the impression that this is one skilled driver. His crown did not come easy, but perhaps now we can better appreciate just what it takes to be the Formula Drift champion.
