For those of you that love the vintage stuff, here’s one you’ll love. This is a full road test video of a 4,500-pound ’72 Buick Riviera GS. For you Buick newbies, GS is the “Gran Sport” package and is the one that adds in all of the suspension, braking, wheel, and related performance options that take it from the base model to the cool one. The video you see here is hosted by legendary car show host Bud Lindemann. He raves about the terrific performance of the big Buick boat, and how the stiffened GS suspension helps it to handle in a vastly superior way to the stock Riv.
We watched the same video that Bud did, but to us it just proves the old physics principle in that an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Perhaps if this were the year 1972 we’d be impressed by the Riv’s prowess on the track, but by modern standards it looks like a whale rolling side to side around corners, starting with a pushing nose and then a wagging tail. We can’t blame the old Buick though, as the big 455 under the hood is a lot of weight to throw over the nose. On the plus side, as with all good muscle cars, this baby shines in a straight line and delivered 0 to 60 in 8.4 seconds. Not too shabby to two tons of fun!
