When Steve Morris says, “Actually, you know, 29 pounds [of boost] isn’t really all that hard [on the engine] at all,” you know you’re dealing with someone that has experience in the high performance engine business. With a history of working with major names like Richard Maskin, Paul Hoskins and Jim Yates, there aren’t too many combos that he’s not seen or built.
In 2003, Morris began to specialize in using Procharger blowers and he’s not looked back since. Through his shop, Morris offers a range of built Chrysler big block engines, ranging in output from 1000 to 3000-plus-horsepower, either assembled or not.
In this video, Morris walks us through a new engine that he’s built for Brett Ward. The 526cui V8 runs a Holley fuel injection system and a ProCharger F3R blower, along with B1 heads, a Keith Black engine block, 42 lb. primary fuel injectors with 160 pound secondaries. B1 rocker arms and valve train complete the head assemblies and a Chisel Performance intercooler looks after the intake air cooling.
In race trim, this engine pumped out 2113 horsepower and 1505 ft-lb of torque at the flywheel, using 29.3 psi of boost. Equally interesting is his side project to detune this engine to make it “streetable” at about 1500 horsepower. Huh? When its time to run with the Mopar big dogs, it seems like Steve Morris should be one of the names on your contact list.
