Want To Build Your Own Voodoo Engine? Now’s Your Chance!

With the all-new Shelby GT350 models just beginning to be delivered to customers, the car is already quickly becoming a huge hit.

The GT350 was recently announced as the top production track car of the year by a print magazine, and it’s easy to see why. The 5.2 liter DOHC 32-valve V8, dubbed the Voodoo engine found in the Shelby GT350, makes 526 horsepower. And it makes even more when it’s tuned properly.

voodoo-cut-away-101We recently spoke with a Ford Performance representative regarding the possibility of a Voodoo crate engine in the future. While they unfortunately were not able to comment on that, we did receive some enticing news however. The blue oval plans to offer enthusiasts a ton of Voodoo engine components essentially allowing enthusiasts to build their own engine and perform a swap. The first of many components to come that is available, is the 5.2 liter Voodoo’s engine block. Naturally, the cylinder heads will become available next, with many components such as the GT350’s valves and rockers, following and allowing for a set of higher-lift camshafts.

Ford has plans to even offer enthusiasts a power package like previous Mustang models, only this package will utilize a GT350's cold air intake assembly and a custom tuning calibration.

One of the packages we’re most excited about is the cylinder head and camshaft combination. Ford plans to offer camshafts for the Voodoo cylinder heads that will be setup for the traditional cross-plane Coyote firing order, allowing the use of a cross-plane crank in the Voodoo block.

The possibilities for performance are potentially huge based on all of this information. Ford enthusiasts will have the option to build a flat-plane or cross-plane engine based on the Voodoo architecture. We could see significant leaps in the performance world as builders and enthusiasts across the country embrace Ford’s latest short-block.

Stay tuned as we bring you more information on the packages we can expect at this year’s PRI coverage – as Ford says, we can expect a lot more info then!
