Hemmings Auto Blog [2] reports that the DeLorean from Back to the Future III will be hitting the Profiles in History [3] auction block this December.
Now all movies where a car plays an integral role generally have “back up” vehicles, sometimes as many as a dozen. In the case of the second sequel to Back to the Future, a total of seven altered DeLoreans were built for filming. Of those seven, only three remain…and this particular one is the only car in a private collection. The rest are owned by Universal Studios.
Shockingly, this car was left neglected for over 14 years before being rescued by the collector, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity. The auction estimates the final bid to fall between $400,000 and $600,000. And if that is too much for you, well the auction will also have the “Pit Bull” hoverboard used by Griff Tannen in Back to the Future II, which will go for an estimated $15,000 to $20,000.
